Planning your engagement session is one of the most exciting parts of being engaged—but choosing the perfect location can sometimes feel overwhelming.
San Antonio is lucky to have an incredible mix of historic architecture, lush gardens, modern cityscapes, Texas landscapes, and romantic outdoor spaces. Whether you envision elegant and timeless photographs, colorful and playful images, or something completely natural and relaxed, there is a location that can fit your story.
As a San Antonio engagement photographer, I always encourage couples to choose a location that not only photographs beautifully but also feels like you.
Here are some of my favorite engagement photo locations in and around San Antonio.
Japanese Tea Garden
Best for: Romantic, lush, timeless engagement photos
The Japanese Tea Garden is one of San Antonio's most recognizable photography locations—and for good reason. The garden features stone pathways, bridges, ponds, lush greenery, and its beautiful waterfall, creating a variety of backgrounds within one location.
This location is especially beautiful for couples who want their engagement photographs to feel romantic and intimate without looking overly posed.
Photographer's tip: Because the Japanese Tea Garden is popular for photography, consider scheduling your session earlier in the day or during a less busy weekday.
McNay Art Museum
Best for: Elegant, editorial, and sophisticated photographs
If you want your engagement photos to have an upscale, European-inspired feel, the McNay is hard to beat.
The Spanish Colonial Revival architecture, manicured grounds, fountains, sculptures, and courtyards provide an incredible variety of backdrops. The museum's grounds are particularly beautiful for couples who want a more polished and editorial look.

The Park at Pearl

The Pearl is perfect for couples who want something a little less traditional.
The historic brewery architecture, brick, modern buildings, outdoor spaces, and nearby River Walk create a great combination of urban and romantic scenery. The area is also perfect for couples who want their engagement session to feel more like a date than a traditional photoshoot.
Imagine walking together, grabbing a drink or coffee, laughing, and simply enjoying each other while your photographer captures those moments naturally.
Photographer's tip: The Pearl can get busy, especially on weekends. Weekday or earlier sessions can make it easier to capture more intimate images.
San Antonio Botanical Garden
Best for: Nature lovers, colorful photos, and lots of variety
The San Antonio Botanical Garden is one of my favorite choices for couples who want multiple looks without having to travel between locations.
With themed gardens, greenery, flowers, architectural features, and the Texas Native Trail, there are plenty of opportunities to create a gallery that feels diverse and natural.
It's also a great option if you want your engagement session to feel more relaxed and connected to nature.
Photographer's tip: Plan your outfits around the season. Spring can bring beautiful blooms, while greenery can provide a timeless look throughout much of the year.

Cibolo Nature Center — Boerne
Best for: Couples who love nature and the Texas Hill Country
If you're willing to venture outside San Antonio, the Hill Country opens up even more possibilities.
The Cibolo Nature Center in Boerne is a great choice for couples who want their engagement session to feel natural and relaxed.
Instead of city architecture, your photographs can focus on trees, trails, open landscapes, and the natural beauty of the Texas Hill Country.
Photographer's tip: This is an especially good option for couples who enjoy hiking, exploring, and being outdoors together.
Mission Concepción

If you want your engagement photographs to have a distinctly San Antonio feel, Mission Concepción is an incredible choice.
As one of San Antonio's historic missions, Mission Concepción offers beautiful Spanish Colonial architecture, warm stone walls, arches, courtyards, and surrounding greenery. The combination creates photographs that feel romantic and timeless while showcasing a meaningful piece of San Antonio's history.
The historic architecture also provides plenty of variety throughout your engagement session. We can create intimate portraits beneath the arches, walking photographs around the mission grounds, and wider images that showcase the beautiful structure.
Brackenridge Park

If you're looking for greenery without the more formal feel of a botanical garden, Brackenridge Park is worth considering.

For couples who want a distinctly San Antonio look, Mission San José is an amazing choice.
The historic Spanish Colonial architecture, stone walls, arches, courtyards, and surrounding grounds provide a timeless backdrop. The mission is often referred to as the "Queen of the Missions" and is one of the most visually striking locations within San Antonio Missions National Historical Park.
Photographer's tip: Neutral and earthy clothing colors work beautifully with the warm stone architecture.
Hemisfair
Best for: Modern, colorful, and playful engagement photos
Hemisfair offers a different side of San Antonio.
With modern landscaping, open spaces, architectural elements, fountains, and views toward the Tower of the Americas, this location can give your engagement gallery a more contemporary feel.

For something especially romantic, Marriage Island offers a recognizable heart-shaped setting along the River Walk.
